Welcome to the Pretoria Wireless Project.

Pretoria Wireless Project is a high-speed, community built and operated wireless data-network. We do not provide internet access!.

The network is neutral, and anybody can contribute to it by publishing content or services, and by helping the community expand. Currently there are many services such as gaming servers, ftp and torrent servers, VoIP and many more. Any services that run on the Internet protocol are possible.

The Pretoria Wireless Project is concentrated in the Pretoria (Tshwane) area. Click here for more information and some history about the project.

Please join our IRC channel via the web-interface, or #pwp on irc.pwp.za.net. If you don’t know what IRC is have a look at the mIRC Intro.

Please register on the Wireless Nodes Database if you are interested in joining this project.

  • 2008-05-11: New 5 GHz coverage in centurion. See this coverage map for more information.
  • 2008-04-02: Meeting at Ridgeback (Corner of South & Jean Street in Centurion), 9 April at 19h00.
  • 2008-03-27: Added some Coverage diagrams.
  • 2008-02-23: Wireless Linkup Event Happening at the Department of Science and Technology, Building 53, CSIR Campus, on 23 February @ 9:30 - 13:00. More info here.
  • 2008-02-04: Informal meeting at Ridgeback (Corner of South & Jean Street in Centurion), Wednesday the 13th Febuary at 19h00.
  • 2008-02-03: PWP and PTAWUG linked.
  • 2008-01-24: Possible new coverage in Centurion. This coverage would be on 5 GHz, contact th0rn for more information. Contribution will be needed to make this coverage a reality.
  • 2008-01-07: Welcome d-_-b and Zheng to the network! We finally have Pretoria and Centurion linked.
  • 2007-12-01: Just a reminder on the informal get-together at Ridgeback (Corner of South & Jean Street in Centurion), Wednesday 05 December at 19h00 to discuss progress and touch base. Everyone is welcome.
  • 2007-11-17: Server restored.
  • 2007-11-07: The PSU on the PWP box failed. We're waiting for a replacement. In the meantime it might be slow at times, so be patient.
  • 2007-11-04: PWP and Jawug has successfully linked. Special thanks goes to th0rn, h4wk, Rabidbunny, Codewarrior and Deckert for their efforts with the install and contributions! The Mybroadband thread on the link
  • 2007-09-06: Meeting on the 12th September around 19h00 at Ridgeback, please leave a post on the forum or mail Codewarrior if you are coming.
