Contents

Overview

PWP members have decided on a number of policies at meetings. All policies have been made with the following in mind:

  • Compliance with the law, based on our understanding of the law.
  • Long term usage of the network
  • Growth of the network
  • Network efficiency
  • Conservation of the wireless spectrum
  • Compatibility with existing computer and network standards
  • Compatibility with certain other wireless community networks with the aim of linking to these networks in future

Feel free to discuss the policies with the PWP team, and to help shape future policies and changes to the benefit of the PWP.

Compliance

PWP is a community based volunteer network. New members are welcome, but will be expected to follow the policies of the PWP.

Individuals who follow unreasonable and disruptive practices may be denied connection until such time as those individuals are willing to participate in a constructive way.

Specific Policies

Legal Compliance

The PWP does not have any official legal representation and our views on the legal aspect of the operation of a WiFi computer network are based on our study of the applicable laws.

PWP members are expected to comply with the following code of conduct:

  • Transmission Frequency: 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz ISM bands
  • Transmission Power: A maximum of 100mW or 20dBm
  • Free Network: No access fee or subscription fee may be charged for access to the PWP network or services provided on the network.

Network Settings

  • SSID: pwp.za.net/[Your SSID] is recommended
  • IP Allocation: 172.17.0.0/16 range
  • Routing Protocol: OSPF primarily

Property

All items of property used on the network remain the property of their respective owners, no matter where they may be installed.
